In the Montessori sequence of the math curriculum, form F-403 is first used for the understanding of the hierarchies of the decimal system of numeration in combination with the Long (or Large) Bead Frame. The student learns why 10 green beads of the units must be exchanged for 1 blue bead of the tens; 10 blue beads of the tens must be exchanged for 1 red bead of the hundreds; and 10 red beads of the hundreds must be exchanged for 1 green bead of the units of thousands. The pattern repeats itself no matter how large a number we have to deal with. 

Therefore, after understanding hierarchical numeration and working on addition, multiplication and subtraction with the Long Bead Frame, this form is ideal when the student encounters the work with the Montessori Long Division Test Tubes and Hierarchic Bead Boards.
