WHAT THIS LESSON WILL TEACH

One of the advantages of a phonetic language is that there is a very limited necessity to SPELL words. Italian words are written exactly as they are pronounced, according to the PHONETIC sound of each alphabet letter. A few PHONOGRAMS have special sounds, but they are truly FEW!

What do Italians do when they can’t identify the letters in a word, especially a foreign word, if they can’t spell out the letter names as we do in English? In this lesson we learn how they name their city names, so that the listener can recognize the first letter of each city and “spell out” the word correctly.. For example, if your name is MARTIN, instead of M for Mary and A for apple, they’ll simply say: Milano-Ancona- Roma-Taranto-Imola-Napoli. The listener puts the first letters of the cities together and he can say and write Martin.

The importance of learning how SIMPLE SYLLABLES form big words for easy pronunciation

Memorization of words by association to pictures

Working at your own pace with word activities for immediate practice and application of what you learned
